poster design 2

i am going to produce a poster in the style of William Bradley. i want to make the poster clearly look as if its been designed today and i could stress this point by having it for a modern event with dates included. i will make it for a real sporting event. there is an annual ski event in Austria in a town called St Anton. i wish to use similar composition and also use of colour. the way Bradley uses different colour of text to brake it up is interesting and i will use this to.

this is the poster i will be basing my second poster on.

this is the first layout i have created, i am using the same box idea as William Bradley.

i have then drawn some ski characters within illustrator then added them. i am using the appropriate colours. i have added a drop shadow, i was pleased with how this came out.

this is an example of the different use of colours in font i was talking about. i like how it saves space as you don't need word spacing you simply change the colours so it can be clearly read at a glance as well.

i am pleased with the finished poster design and i look forward to getting it printed professionally.

box construction 2

i have found some foam to line the box also i have made a separate shelf for the postcards. this will organize my items that are in the box and it will have more depth and be more interesting once opened.

box construction

i have started to make my box box. i want a large sized box as i wish to have my posters in a cardboard tube. i also think it would be a fun idea to line the box with some thing. im going to find some foam to do this with. the image below is the start of me making the box. i used card butted up together with tape to secure the join.

gatefold

when making the gate fold i wanted to make sure that the folds were correct so that i didn't get an unwanted fold over my design. i measured it out in illustrator before starting and printed a blank test to see if i had it right first time round. within the design of the gate fold i was keen to include the idea of different depths using limited colour and a masked off pattern. i wanted the different heights that i hoped to achieve to flow in to each other. i used the character from the previous poster within the gate fold. it works well in the gate fold and the poster i feel. i look forward to getting this printed as well as my poster.

poster 1

this poster has been produced after looking at the work that i have researched. when creating a poster i was really keen not to do a direct copy so i drew a person from scratch using illustrator. i was also very keen to use the effect of creating depth using bold pasterns with the illusion of a block colour to make different depths. this technique was first seen when the begarstaffs began to play around with simple blocks of dynamic colour. then at a later period in time artists developed this further. i have used this effect to make the person in my poster look as if he has a suit jacket and hair but its the same colour as the back ground so i masked out the pattern to give it this effect. this is only the first poster i wish to make more.

1910 Flat Colour

after undertaking research, the time period of 1910 appeals to me. i have little knowledge of this so it will be and interesting learning curve. i want to explore the origins of the contemporary poster. i will be looking at late art nouveau and other artists who have been inspired by the beggarstaff brothers. this was an eventful time as there were two wars so the turn of the century saw allot. i will focus on the downfall of art nouveau and the artists that came out of that.mainly the beggarstaff brothers and how they influenced future art movements and design conventions.

Time capsule

After receiving the brief i am now going to undertake research on different design periods as i know little to nothing about most of them and wish to explore a wide range before making my final choice.initially i will undertake a broad search to get an overall feel of the different movements. i think it will be interesting to explore some thing i have little knowledge about as i will be constantly finding out new things. i want my choice to be interesting but also a challenge. it would help as well if i could relate it to now for example some one who has had an influence on some thing i am familiar with now.
